Karen-Ann Thornton
Licensed Optician
"I have been part of Dr. Hagens' team since 2005. I started out as an optometric assistant but later completed a 2-year optician course, which has given me the confidence and knowledge to provide the best quality of service to our patients in our dispensary. When I am not at work, I am busy with my 2 young children who fill my life with much excitement and entertainment!"
Yolanda Kuhn
Certified Optometric Assistant
"I have been part of the Oyen Optometry team since 2002. I completed the Optometric Assistance course in 2004, which has given me the tools and background to prescreen patients for Dr. Hagens as well as to assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear for their individual prescriptions. I enjoy the daily opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. In my spare time, I keep busy helping out around the farm and spending time with my family."

"I grew up in Oyen and have been seeing Dr. Hagens as my Optometrist since she began practicing in Oyen! I was very excited to join the team in October of 2006 as receptionist. I have enjoy arranging appointments, keeping our days organized and greeting patients. I finished my optometric assistant course to become certified in 2008 and have recently returned to work following my maternity leave. I now look forward to the new opportunity of serving you in our dispensary."
Brandi Kukura

"I joined the Oyen Optometry Clinic in 2009 as a maternity leave replacement when our receptionist, Amanda, became a mother for the second time. I have enjoyed arranging the days for the team and assisting patients with their questions and needs. I very much love working with people and hope this shows each and every day. I keep very busy after hours with my own young daughter, Addison, around whom my life revolves!"
Rebecca Ference
Summer Student
" I have been with the Oyen Optometry team since the summer of 2009 at which time I decided that I would be well suited for a life as an optometrist. I have since set my sights on the education that is required to fulfill my goal - a long but worthwhile commitment! I am enjoying my summers with all the friendly staff here and with Dr. Hagens to give me some guidance and direction. On the weekends I love to hang out with friends and spend some time at the lake whenever I can."
Sheila Pratt
Summer Student
"I have been working with Dr. Hagens now since Grade 12. I am extra excited about my work here, as I am currently in post secondary education advancing toward my Doctor of Optometry degree. I have finished my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta and have been recently accepted into the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, where I will be a little further from home but much closer to my Doctor of Optometry degree! I hope to continue to be a part of the Oyen Optometry in some capacity all along the way."
Savannah Niwa

I started my work experience here at Oyen Optometry in the summer of 2011 and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I find working with the staff and patients here very rewarding and look forward to expanding my role as an assistant.
Kristyn Smigelski
Summer Student
I have been interested in optometry as a potential career for a few years now, and have started my educational path in this direction, so it was a thrill to get to work in this capacity at Oyen Optometry for the summer. I love the variety of patients seen here and the experience has solidified my resolve regarding becoming a doctor of optometry myself!
